Second Language Training

At the Toronto Military Family Resource Centre, we support the language needs and choices of our community. We believe that civilian spouses and youth should have opportunities to learn either of Canada’s official languages. We also believe that Canadian Forces (CF) families must have an opportunity to learn the predominant official language of their community for day-to-day living. Furthermore, CF families should have opportunities to interact with members of their own first language community. English classes are also available.

FREE French Classes

Are you posted to Ottawa? Quebec? New Brunswick? Nervous about finding a job because your French isn’t quite what it once was? If you are interested in learning French or brushing up on your skills, we offer free French classes to military spouses. Our curriculum is recognized by the Public Service and is very similar to the French training taken by military members. You will have 2 classes each week for 10 weeks.

Details:
Level: Beginner or Intermediate (students will be tested prior to the beginning of the course to determine their oral proficiency and be placed into classes accordingly)
Duration: Spring, Fall &  Winter sessions available.
Date & Time: depends on majority of registrants
Fees:
Spouse of CF member: $50 deposit (returned upon successful completion of the course);
Children of CF members: $50 (non-refundable);
Others: $100 (non-refundable)
Childcare: for day classes, childcare will be provided within the TMFRC free of charge (conditional on staffing). For evening classes, the TMFRC will reimburse participants 50% of childcare costs if we are unable to provide childcare at the centre.
