DEPLOYMENT SERVICES What is Family Separation? Family separation is when a Canadian Forces (CF) member or Reservist is required to be away from home for a period of 30 days or longer. This includes not just overseas deployments, but also Temporary Duty, Special Tasking, Field Exercises, Restricted Postings or a course. Life in the Forces presents its own unique rewards and challenges. Often, being the family member left behind while a loved one is away, can be very overwhelming and uncertain. The Separation and Reunion Program is in place to be a strong source of support, for those family members who remain at home during this separation. At the Toronto Military Family Resource Centre (TMFRC), we know that family separation is a regular part of life in the Forces. During this time of uncertainty and loneliness, we want spouses, youth, children and parents to know that you are not alone and that you have somewhere to turn and seek support, before, during and after the absence of your family member. By registering with the TMFRC, you will be able to stay connected and informed and receive information about how to cope, how to send mail and how to meet others and share similar experiences. Be sure to connect with the TMFRC office as soon as you know about an upcoming separation, to ensure the necessary supports are in place for you and your family. |
