CHILDREN, YOUTH & PARENTING
Parent/Caregiver Education and Support
The goal of our centre is to provide an environment where parents and caregivers are actively involved in planning, evaluating and monitoring services that promote positive parenting and healthy child and youth development.
At the TMFRC, parents and caregivers have access to child- and youth-related information and resources, as well as access to resources that will help them identify and find high quality child care and child care options. These resources help develop parenting and care giving skills and give a wider understanding of the developmental foundations of children and youth. Take advantage of:
Parent education and information sessions:
These sessions are run by The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre (a leading treatment centre and research foundation for children’s mental health, affiliated with the University of Toronto) and cover topics related to child development and other issues of interest to parents.
Baby Time Group:
A group of military spouses that meets once per week with their babies -
birth - 12 months. Each week, a new topic is explored, such as infant
massage, toys & development, baby sign, infant nutrition sleep issues
based on parents interests & needs. TMFRC offers parent workshops in
conjunction with the Stay & Play program topics can consist of "How To
Talk So Kids Will Listen", Promoting Pro-Social Behaviour, etc. based on
needs & interests of parents involved.
Life skills training:
TMFRC offers life skills training such as first aid, stress management and coping skills related to parenting.
Resources on effective parenting:
Audio/print materials are available in our library or in the office of
the Children’s Services Coordinator, Cathy Turalinski.

Hincks-Dellcrest Toy Lending Caravan:
Every month from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., a truck full of toys and equipment for children parks outside of the TMFRC. These toys promote development for young children and help increase parents’ awareness of safe toys. Parents can sign out the toys and return them the following month or exchange them for something different.
Please bookmark this page and visit us again for education and support workshops to come.
